Our 5 top tips to help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions
If you plan on setting out some goals for 2021, such as losing weight, learning a new language, or studying towards a new career or promotion, you are likely to be sitting down to set some goals, shortly. To help you have the best chances of success with your goals, we have created our top five tips for success below.
Start with small goals
This time of year, we all feel really motivated to make changes and we usually start off strong. The trick to sticking to your goals all year long, is to start with and complete smaller goals first, to get you into the habit. Remember positive experiences help you to feel incentivised, successful, and more likely to continue working on your next goals.
Make your goals measurable
For goals to be attainable, you need to make them specific and measurable. Let’s say you wanted to work out more this year, you would need to decide how long you wanted to work out for (30 minutes a day, 5 days a week). By setting a measurement, you are specifying what goal success looks like.
You will need to choose goals that are realistic with your lifestyle and the amount of time you can set aside to achieve those goals, otherwise you will likely lose your motivation. Remember to be honest with yourself and consider the time and resources you have available to reach your goals.
Make a plan
Now that you have your goals in place, you will need to establish the when, where, and why? This way you can create an action plan to start your goal process off right.
Finally, stay positive
Achieving your goals can often be fairly time consuming, with many taking 6-12 months. To have the best chances of success, it’s best for you to stay positive and remain confident that you can complete your goals. Think about the reasons why you are trying to complete these goals in the first place, as this will help you remain positive and focused.
