The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) is structured into two key units, designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of safety principles, health and safety management, and their practical application in the workplace.

Unit IG1: Management of health and safety

• How health and safety management systems work.

• Managing risk — understanding people and processes.

• Health and safety monitoring and measuring.

Unit IG2: Risk assessment element

• Physical and psychological health.

• Musculoskeletal health.

• Chemical and biological agents.

• Work equipment, fire, and electricity.

• Develop and implement a detailed action plan.

• Identify health and safety issues.

All our NEBOSH courses have course access for 12 months or shorter live sessions that last a few days. You can complete your online training within 12 months. This allows you to learn at your own pace, ensuring enough time to study.

Exam details

Unit IG1: Management of health and safety

• Exam format: Open Book Examination

• Duration: You have 24 hours from 11am (UK time) on the examination date to access, complete, and submit your paper.

• Pass mark: 45-64 (Credit = 65-74, Distinction = 75+)

Unit IG2: Risk assessment element

• Exam format – Practical assessment

• Duration – 3 hours

To earn the IGC qualification, you must pass both units.

You have five years to complete your qualification. The countdown starts from your first passed unit. If a unit is older than five years, you'll need to retake it.
