Are you using influencers in your digital marketing strategy?

How many influencers do you follow? And do you let them influence your buying decisions? I know that many of us do; simply because we’re living in such a social media driven world and find it helpful to get an idea of what a product is actually like and if it’s worth buying. We all want a second opinion before investing into a product or experiencing an endeavor.

We live in a day and age where every one of us can recognise what an online networking influencer is. We also all know that social media influencers have the ability to subconsciously market a brand or product online. By the end of this article, I’m going to tell you why this concept of “social media influencers’ truly works and why you should use it in a marketing strategy.

A social media influencer is a popular social media figure who has a huge following of people who recognise and trust their social media account and opinion. Influencers are easily able to build an audience who trusts them by posting authentic reviews and giving their honest opinion on products they buy or experiences they venture out on.

I know I said they are ‘easily able to build an audience who trusts them’ and you may ask why? I’m going to tell you how and why. Influencers are able to create trust between them and all of their followers because they share their story and day-to-day life with people; and just like catching up with a friend everyday people find things that they are able to relate to or they might even find that they have a lot of things in common with them. This is how influencers can connect with people they follow and gain their audience’s trust.

Why you should use an influencer in your digital marketing strategy

Once influencers have a trusting following, you as a company or brand are able to either pay them with products or a sum of money to post and promote you. Influencers have an audience who invest their time following them and are ready to take their advice. So, when they post a product talking about how much they love it, followers and consumers are more likely to buy that product. When they post about your product you are able to leverage off their audience making your product’s reach incredible.

However, there are also downfalls of influencers. Some influencers are not so genuine or are constantly promoting products that are not relevant to their brand and image. Many influencers do take their social media too far by oversharing and over sponsoring posts; which makes them unauthentic.

People find it very difficult to follow an influencer who is constantly marketing products to their followers. Therefore, when influencers are genuine, open, and transparent with their followers, they are more likely to have followers who trust their opinions and who will ultimately buy a product they are promoting.

I know we as consumers all can't help but be secretly appreciative of social media influencers. We are constantly online on our phones, tablets and PC’s and always on the search for authentic reviews and recommendations. It’s always best to get a second and third opinion and this is why influencers are great because they love to give their opinion on things we want to know about.
