Exams: what to do next

I’m going to go back to the very beginning here.

OK, maybe not the VERY beginning. But the beginning of adulthood at least.

I finished my exams and had no idea of what I wanted to do. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch.

I had done my five applications to University through UCAS, four ones I wanted and one to Oxford to take up the final place – that got rejected within about 30 minutes. I may as well have printed the application, turned it into a paper plane and thrown it off a bridge over the Thames to see how far it travelled.

But, I didn’t, that’s littering.

I got accepted into Staffordshire University and to cut a three-year story short, I completed a degree in Journalism. I graduated and still had no idea of what I wanted to do.

I had a degree in Journalism and an idea that I wanted to do something to do with writing. So, naturally, I accepted the first job that came my way… a job in sales.

By hook or by crook, I have managed to find my way to a job that, in some form, encapsulates what I did at University and doesn’t mean I need to make tea and coffee, or knock on the door of family members who are grieving because none of my colleagues want to do it and I need to make my way up the ladder.

If, in my journey through the adolescence of my adulthood, I had been made privy to the idea of eLearning – an idea which would have meant I could build on my skills earlier, I would have taken it. I was under the impression that all learning had to be done inside a classroom, and anything that wasn’t carried out in a classroom couldn’t be considered learning: an incredibly backwards way of thinking, and quite ironic if you think about it. Especially now that I’m in digital marketing, and more specifically, content marketing in the eLearning and EdTech sector.

There are many online qualifications that offer more benefits than those in class, while giving you a qualification that holds the same sway.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, what industry you’re in or the industry you want to transition to, eLearning offers an affordable solution that can be studied around your daily commitments.

Now that exams have finished, don’t panic, there will always be something out there for you. You just need to find it.
