What is CIPD?

A better question perhaps, is who is CIPD. Priding themselves on being a community, the CIPD (The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) are THE industry thought-leaders when it comes to HR and Learning and Development professions. As an internationally recognised institution, having a CIPD qualification means unlimited career prospects, as well as significant employment demand.

Established in 1913, the CIPD have over 100 years in championing better work by setting professional standards for HR and development, as well as being a driving force for positive change. With hubs in the UK, Ireland, Middle East and Asia, the CIPD is the voice of a worldwide community of over 160,000 members committed to improving the standards of working. They are the only body in the world that can award Chartered status to individual HR and L&D professionals.

Our CIPD qualifications

As a starting point, CIPD offer a Level 3 Foundation Certificate in People Practice. With no entry requirements necessary, it’s an exciting entry to the world of HR and people management. It’s 4 modules will introduce learners to the HR and L&D industry and pave the way for a wide variety of job opportunities.

For those who are already qualified, or in high level HR and L&D job roles, the journey continues with either the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management, or the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in Organisational Learning and Development.

Both will dive further into the world of HR and L&D but will take different routes in the specialist modules.

How long does a CIPD Qualification take and is it worth it?

Over the course of just 19 months (7 for level 3 and 12 for level 5), going from zero to hero in a people profession is wholly achievable. When comparing this to a university course over a minimum of 36 months, the courses not only save valuable time but also come with a more appealing price tag – saving over £50,0001 in fees and loans.

Most organisations with over 10 employees will need a dedicated HR professional, and every business in the world has a requirement for people management. As some of the most in-demand professionals, CIPD members have a vast pool of opportunity at their fingertips.

Which CIPD course should I take?

Complete beginner? Interested in HR but don’t have experience or qualifications? Our level 3 Foundation Certificate is likely to be your bag. You can use this to get your foot in the door to a HR or L&D role, even as you study. After completing this qualification, you would earn yourself the title “Foundation CIPD” after your name.

Finished your CIPD level 3? Have a degree in an unrelated subject? Even if you have no qualification but have been working in HR for years and know your stuff, you’re likely to qualify for our level 5 offering. Taking this course could open up opportunities for promotions, new roles or a position at a new company. By choosing between People Management and Organisational Learning and Development, you can hone-in your specialty skills, which usually comes with the added benefit of a salary increase.
